Check Services Operator II

Position Location

Farmington Hills, MI
This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Currently 5 days of on-site work per month are required.

Position Purpose

The Check Services Operator II performs a variety of functions, including setting up the processes of performing In-Clearings, Returns and Transit Work. Performs reject repair and balancing. Performs file processing duties. Each operator may be assigned various tasks depending on business needs. Provides quality customer service and communicates effectively with area staff and management.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare In-Clearings and Returns for processing.
  • Read checks and enter data such as amount, bank or account number.
  • Perform research and lookups online and through the processing system.
  • Perform processing duties related to remote deposit capture process, ATM capture process and merchant capture process.
  • Balance daily work, cash letters, and/or incoming and outgoing files.
  • Create and transmit check image files.
  • Perform daily transmissions to clients, Federal Reserve Bank and/or Trading Partners.
  • Track and resolve problems effectively and with a sense of urgency.
  • Act as a resource and support to clients throughout the business relationship.
  • Promote goodwill and a positive image of the company.
  • Research check adjustment issues for customers.
  • File adjustments with the Federal Reserve Bank and other presentment partners.
  • Review and update all support tickets weekly into the Check Services Queue.
  • Assign tickets as appropriate.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Program Analysts on implementation and set up of new clients for Check Services products.
  • Maintain user manuals and client training documents used by Check Services.
  • Operate check scanner and other common office equipment.
  • Assist with daily spreadsheet functions.
  • Keep work area clean, secure and well maintained.
  • Complete assigned documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Complete projects as assigned.
  • Attend and participate in meetings, conference calls, and seminars as required.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One (1) year certificate from a college or technical school, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in experience in banking, finance, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with check processing systems and banking software.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle high-volume check processing efficiently.
  • Knowledge of financial transaction processing and account reconciliation.

Required Knowledge

  • Two (2) years of check processing-related experience and/or training preferred.
  • Must be familiar with check processing and adjustment rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of office procedures and policies.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and priorities.
  • Knowledge of credit union operations; understanding of teller functions and Share Draft Processing.
  • Knowledge of desktop functions and all related computer hardware and software. Advanced skill with Microsoft Excel.

Working Conditions

  • Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm MT work schedule
  • No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions (such as in a typical office).
  • May require occasional overnight out-of-state travel.
  • May require occasional evening or weekend hours as required.
  • Long duration of computer workstation usage.
  • When designated primary or secondary in on-call rotation, available 24/7 via phone or pager.

The compensation is based on experience and offers a base salary plus bonus opportunities. We offer BCBS benefits, dental, disability and life insurance at 90 days and 401K after one year.
